The Rocky Mountain Section of the American Water Works Association (RMSAWWA) recognized two Highlands Ranch Water and Sanitation District employees at its business luncheon at the Rocky Mountain Water Conference on Sept. 11. RMSAWWA recognized John Droullard, Sr. and Andy Smith for their commitment to achieve excellence in the water industry. Both awards recognize individuals for their exceptional performance, dedication and teamwork.
Droullard is the recipient of the Ralph M. Leidholdt Outstanding Water Treatment Plant Operator Award. Droullard has worked at Highlands Ranch Water for 31 years. He is the district’s Water Treatment Plant Lead Operator and holds Class A Water Operator and Class A Wastewater Operator certifications. His outstanding performance has led to high quality, safe drinking water being delivered to Highlands Ranch Water customers. John has been a part of, led and managed everything from infrastructure replacement improvements, to process changes and optimization, and capacity expansion.
“John is very deserving of this award. His knowledge, leadership and personal drive have made a positive, lasting impact on the district and his profession,” said Nic George, Highlands Ranch Water superintendent of water and wastewater operations.
“Over the past 30 years, John has not only led water operations, but helped shape the operators of tomorrow. His knowledge, steadfastness and mentorship have helped prepare many operators, myself included, to continue the excellence that he exhibits,” George added.
Andy Smith is the recipient of the 2023 Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Award. Smith is the Water Treatment Plant Maintenance Lead at the district. He has worked at Highlands Ranch Water for 12 years and holds Class D Water Operator, Class D Wastewater Operator and Mechanic 2 certifications. Smith has been involved in the creation and implementation of the district’s asset management system, countless internal upgrades and retro-fits to process areas, responded to countless emergencies and serves as the main contact for general contractors during construction projects.
“Andy’s leadership skills, work ethic, positive attitude and service to the water industry in the South Denver Metro area make him more than deserving for this award and I couldn’t be happier for him,” said Ross James, superintendent of facilities maintenance/asset management.
“Andy has been an excellent example for his crews over the years. He always has a great attitude and creates a positive work environment for everyone around him,” added James.
“We are so excited for John and Andy to receive these awards,” said General Manager San Calkins. “Both gentleman exemplify hard work, a desire to continually learn and look for ways to innovate, and are amazing mentors to coworkers. We are very fortunate they chose to spend their careers with us at Highlands Ranch Water and we look forward to celebrating these awards with them.”
