Commercial Backflow Testing
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) requires all commercial backflow devices to be tested once per year. These regulations apply to domestic, fire and irrigation systems equipped with commercial backflow prevention devices used to protect the public water system in the Highlands Ranch Water service area.
To ensure compliance with this regulation and ease the testing burden on customers, Highlands Ranch Water has engaged the services of Morrison Backflow Testing (Morrison) to perform testing of all commercial backflow prevention devices. Morrison is a certified backflow device tester. Access to these devices will need to be provided by the property owner/tenant during reasonable business hours so that Morrison can complete the required annual testing work.
The cost is $75 per backflow device, per year. This includes testing, minimal repairs and administrative costs for the program. The charge will be invoiced to customers through their water utility bill.
Yes. Morrison will schedule testing work with each customer, perform the required backflow test and provide each customer with a copy of the certified test report.
In the event the backflow device fails to pass the test, minor repairs will be made by Morrison at no additional cost to the customer. If the backflow device cannot be easily repaired, the cost to replace and test a new backflow device and send the certified test report to Highlands Ranch Water will be the customer’s responsibility. For such work, the customer may use a service quote provided by Morrison or hire their own certified plumber.
If testing is to be performed on an irrigation backflow device that is locked within a cage and an access key/code is not provided. Morrison will replace the lock with a new combination lock and the combination will be provided to the customer.
